Diabetics must be careful about what they eat. This means that one of the first things a diabetic must do is to rate their plates and see if there are enough vegetables, starches or grains, and a source of lean protein on them. But that is not all, because drinking low-fat milk regularly is really good for people who suffer from diabetes, as is eating lots of fruits (such as oranges, pears, berries and cherries) and, also, plain Greek yogurts. Rein the portions on your plate Unconsciously, most people eat way more than they should because we live in an era where both fast food chains and proper restaurants tempt us to have larger meals. However, eating large amounts of food isn't healthy. Also, it's better to eat greater portions of healthy foods such as vegetables and fruits than eat small portions of unhealthy foods such as fried stuff. Pick healthy oils and fats We all know that many types of food have large amounts of fat in them. What many people don't know is that there are both good and bad fats. Avoid eating large portions of cheese, butter and sour cream and start getting most of your fat intake from nuts. A good idea is also to use extra virgin olive oil when seasoning your meals. Avoid the intake of calories from added sugars Products such as sodas, fruit drinks and energy drinks are extremely popular and easy to find, but all of them contain large amounts of added sugars which are extremely unhealthy for everyone, but even more for diabetics. Avoid take-away joints If you are one of those people that like to eat out every now and then, avoid drive-by dishes as they are always more unhealthy than food cooked in proper restaurants.
